Editorial Standards | GTV Tricks

Readers come to GTV Tricks to fix problems and get more out of their Google TV. That only works if they can trust what we publish. These editorial standards explain how we create, check and update our guides for you.

🎯 Our Editorial Principles

  • Useful first: every guide must solve a real problem for a real viewer
  • Clear and simple: plain language and short steps, with no unnecessary jargon
  • Honest: we say what works, what doesn’t and what we couldn’t confirm
  • Reader-first: we write for people, not just for search engines

📝 How a Guide Gets Made

01Research: we start with reader questions and the problems people actually run into.
02Test: we follow the steps ourselves on a Google TV device before publishing.
03Write: we turn what we learned into clear, numbered steps.
04Review: the guide is checked for accuracy, clarity and completeness before it goes live.
05Update: we revisit guides when apps, menus or software change.

For details, see How we test.

🧪 Why Results Can Vary

Google TV runs on many different TVs and streamers, in different regions and software versions. A step that works perfectly on one device may look slightly different on another. When we know about differences, we point them out. If something doesn’t match your screen, adjust as needed or ask us for help.

👤 Who Writes and Reviews

Every guide on GTV Tricks is written and tested by Black Joseph, a streaming device specialist and the creator of the Black Joseph YouTube channel, where more than 17,000 subscribers follow his Fire TV, Google TV and Android TV tutorials. He also runs the GTV Tricks YouTube channel, with video versions of our Google TV guides.

Before a guide goes live, he follows the steps himself on Google TV devices such as the Chromecast with Google TV, the Google TV Streamer and TVs with Google TV built in, and notes anything that works differently from one device to another.

Read more about him on his author page, or see exactly how we test in How We Test Apps.

🔧 Corrections Policy

Tech changes fast and devices get updated regularly, so if you spot something wrong, outdated or confusing, let us know. We’ll check it and fix it promptly, and we update the guide rather than quietly leaving the error in place.

📺 What We Cover (and Don’t)

We publish Google TV setup guides, app installation tutorials, performance fixes, troubleshooting help and device advice. We don’t host, supply or stream any media content.

🌐 Third-Party Links & Sources

We sometimes link to outside websites, apps or tools for extra information. We don’t control them or guarantee their accuracy, so please read their terms and privacy policies yourself.
