Joz Remote for Google TV – Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 8, 2026

1Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how the developer of Joz Remote for Google TV (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses and protects information when you use the Joz Remote for Google TV app (the “App”) on Android. The App turns your phone into a remote control for Google TV devices. It has no accounts and shows no ads. By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

2Information We Collect

We collect a limited amount of usage and crash data. It is linked only to a random ID, never to your name, email address, phone number or Google account.

App usage events

We use PostHog, an analytics service, to record these events:

  • onboarding_completed: you finished the App’s first-time setup.
  • scan_used: you used the feature that scans for your Google TV.
  • connected: the App connected to your Google TV.
  • keypress: the name of the remote button you pressed (for example, Home, Back or Play/Pause).

We do not record the text you type with the “Type on TV” feature.

Device and app information

With each event, the App may send basic technical details such as your device model, Android version, app version and language. This helps us find bugs that affect specific devices.

Crash logs

If the App crashes, it sends an app_crash event with the crash’s stack trace (technical details about where the error happened). IP addresses are removed from crash logs.

App instance ID

The PostHog SDK creates and stores a random ID on your device so we can count installs and group events. It is not linked to your identity, and it is not your Android advertising ID.

IP address

Like any internet connection, sending data to PostHog makes your IP address visible to its servers. PostHog may use it to estimate an approximate location, such as your country or city. We do not collect your precise location.

What we do not collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, payment details, precise location, contacts, photos, files, what you watch on your TV, or the text you type into the App.

3Local Network Use and Data Stored on Your Device

The App talks to your TV directly over your home Wi-Fi. To work as a remote, it:

  1. Scans your local Wi-Fi network to find your Google TV.
  2. Pairs with your TV using the code shown on your TV screen.
  3. Sends your button presses and typed text directly to your TV.

Your button presses and typed text go from your phone to your TV and are never sent to us. The App saves the details it needs to reconnect, such as your TV’s name and local network address, on your phone. This information stays on your device and is removed when you uninstall the App.

4How We Use Your Information

  • Improving the App: understanding which features are used so we can make them better.
  • Stability: finding and fixing crashes and bugs.
  • Legal compliance: meeting legal obligations or resolving disputes.

We do not use your data for advertising or profiling. Where the GDPR applies, we process this data based on our legitimate interest in keeping the App working and improving it.

5How We Share Your Information

  • Service providers: analytics and crash data is processed by PostHog on our behalf, only to provide analytics services to us. PostHog’s servers may be located outside your country. See PostHog’s privacy policy.
  • As required by law: we may disclose information to comply with legal obligations or to protect the safety and security of our users.

We do not sell or rent your information to anyone.

6Advertisements

The App does not show ads and does not include any advertising networks.

7Data Retention

Analytics and crash data is kept for 12 months and then deleted. Uninstalling the App removes the app instance ID and saved TV details from your device.

8Your Rights and Choices

  • Stop data collection: uninstall the App to stop all data collection.
  • Access or deletion: contact us to ask what data we hold or to request deletion. Because we don’t know who you are, we may ask for details that help us find the data linked to your install.
  • Regional rights: depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have extra rights, including access, correction, deletion and objection. Contact us to use them.

9Security

Data sent from the App to PostHog is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. We take reasonable steps to protect your information, but no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10Children’s Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11Trademarks

Joz Remote for Google TV is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Google LLC or its affiliates. Google TV and Android are trademarks of Google LLC.

12Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and let you know in the App where appropriate.
